Today I’ll be reviewing one of the most popular ladders among the above ground pool owners – Confer Plastics A-Frame 7200 ladder with adjustable height and roll guard barrier. This ladder provides excellent quality and features at an affordable price. The combination of good quality and consumer-friendly pricing is what makes this one of the best selling ladders on the market.
Specifications of Confer Plastics A-Frame
Like any modern ladder, the height of this ladder can be adjusted to make it compatible with pools of different heights. The Confer 7200 will work with pools which have a minimum height of 48 inches, a maximum height of 56 inches and anything in between.
The size of the steps is 18 inches by 5 inches which is decently wide. Another good thing about the ladder is its extra large platform. This large platform enhances the safety of the ladder and is also a great place to sit on & relax. The ladder is rated as 300 lbs (136 Kg) capacity. However, it can easily handle 50 lbs of additional weight.
Assembly & Installation
Assembling this ladder is not at all an issue and usually takes around an hour. It ships with an instructions manual which describes the assembly procedure in great detail making things easier. I highly recommend that you go through the instructions manual when assembling the ladder. There are no special tools required during the assembly apart from things like a mallet and the likes.
Installation of the ladder in your pool shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. Unlike some other ladders, you do not require sand to weight it down in the pool. Instead, you just fill its legs with water. This will be sufficient to weight the ladder down and keep it in place.
Lockable Roll Guard Barrier Feature
A feature of this ladder that folks with toddlers are going to appreciate a lot is the ‘Lockable Roll Guard Safety Barrier’. The roll guard barrier allows you to cover the outer steps when the pool is not in use by simply rolling the guard barrier over to the outer side of the ladder. Once the barrier is rolled over the outer steps, it can then be locked with the keyed padlock provided with the ladder. This prevents direct access to the pool and gives you some level of safety assurance when the young ones are near the pool. The image on the right shows how the ladder looks when the safety guard covers it.
Here’s a video I found that demonstrates this feature :
Compatibility issues with Intex/inflatable/pop-up style pools
The manufacturer has adviced not to use this ladder with Intex/inflatable/pop-up style pools. But ironically, a big percentage of the buyers have bought this ladder for exactly those type of pools. So the question arises – Can this ladder be used with Intex or inflatable type of pools? And the answer is Yes.
The reason why the manufacturer has adviced against using this ladder with Intex/inflatable/pop-up style pools is that of the safety concerns. This ladder is intended to be braced across the top rail of the pool and not the small pipe style top of an Intex or pop-up type pool. The bracing is important to keep the ladder steady when entering/exiting the pool. There is no other reason to avoid using this ladder with Intex or any other pool. If you do intend to purchase it for the above-mentioned type of pool, you will have to take some additional care and perhaps some ‘home engineering’ to keep it steady.
